GREENGUARD

These low-slope membrane systems have been around for more than 50 years, and the technology has evolved to meet the needs for safer and faster installations. The growing demand for sustainability in all things lends itself to a demand for longer-lasting roofs. Simply put, durability equals sustainability. An important support reference is the EPD for flexible bitumen sheets published by the European Waterproofing Association in 2019. The EPD asserts that a properly installed, maintained and overlaid SBS-modified bitumen membrane roof with a typical service life of 30 years can be extended to between 50 and 90 years (depending on local building codes and the consideration of extreme weather impact in some geographic areas).

As a good steward and neighbor to our community, SOPREMA has invested millions of dollars in the implementation and continuous improvement of an air filtration system at our asphalt manufacturing facility in Wadsworth, Ohio.

SOPREMA was the first company in our industry to achieve ISO 14001 certification in January of 1997, a distinction we still hold today. ISO 14001 is a manufacturing management system for establishing environmental performance.

A 180kW solar array is utilized at the Wadsworth, Ohio factory provides sustainable electricity that helps run our facilities daily.

Each year, tons of materials are recycled or repurposed back into the production of our products in all U.S. factories. In 2018, SOPREMA recycled over 650 tons of materials and repurposed over 2,000 tons.

Our commitment to the training and education of our employees is breaking records! On average, our employees complete more than 44 hours of training each year – surpassing our internal goal by 10 percent!

Every year, employees who reach a 20-year service milestone are honored with a new tree planted in our arboretum and marked with a plate memorializing their contributions.

Our corporate recycling program was developed and is managed by our employees on a volunteer basis.

SOPREMA employees host Green Day events, bringing industry professionals together to participate in presentations on different components of greener and smarter buildings.

SOPRA-XPS is an extruded polystyrene product that is now produced in a new LEED-certified manufacturing site. Up to 70% of SOPRA-XPS can be recycled content, depending on the thickness. The product is produced with an HFO blowing agent, reducing Global Warming Potential by 95% - meaning that emissions are more than 25 tons of CO2 equivalent less than competitive products on a typical 10,000 sq. ft. project.

SOPRA-ISO is a rigid polyisocyanurate thermal insulation panel for use in approved multi-ply membrane and flashing assemblies. A Greenguard-approved product.
